SMS Seri Puteri, Kuala Lumpur was part of the Global Citizenship Education (GCED) pilot programme which ran throughout the 2019 school year until February last year. The students and teachers were given a pre- and post-programme assessment to gauge the effectiveness of the module. Here’s what they had to say about the module:
“The module challenges our creativity on how to curb issues like pollution in Tasik Chini. I also got to learn interesting information about Tasik Chini and got to work with my teammates to create our own solutions to the pollution problem.”
— Student Nur Adlyna Sofia Khairul Adly“I gained plenty of benefits throughout the GCED lessons. It expanded my knowledge on current issues that are happening in our country. The programme also involves collaboration between groups. My friends and I worked together to discuss our ideas and thanks to the guidance from our teachers, we got to finish our tasks on time in a fun-filled environment.”
— Student Nur Ilmi Adline Mohd Sapian“I was able to learn about various things like data management and poverty across the world. The debate activities helped me improve my speaking skills.”
— Student Hannah Syahmina Ezzy Ismail“I believe this programme has the ability to give us the platform to find a way to improve or change this world. I was exposed to the kind of problems happening globally, from all aspects, such as socially, politically, economically and environmentally.”
— Student Nur Afrah Irdina Muhamad Rozali“The GCED module has the ability to stimulate critical thinking among students. They are encouraged to voice out their opinions on global issues and even suggest the possible solutions. Students can relate and apply mathematical concepts in the real world. In the long run, they will develop values and attitudes of a responsible global citizen.”
— Mathematics teacher Ahmad Hafiz Abdul Halim“GCED introduces a new insight into the teaching and learning of Science.
It is good exposure for the students to see the current situations in Malaysia and in other countries. GCED also enhances students’ thinking skills.”
— Science teacher Nurul Diyana Mohd Nor
