UTHM hosts students’ barista competition

UNIVERSITI Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) through its Faculty of Technical Education and Vocational, held the Fifth International College Students’ Barista Championship.

It was held from Nov 25 to 27.

The competition was divided into two categories namely “Espresso and Cappuccino Competition” and “Signature Drink Competition”.

Faculty dean Assoc Prof Dr Abdul Rasid Abdul Razzaq said the university worked with the Zhejiang Technical Institute of Economics (ZJTIE) and the Unesco-Unevoc International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

He said UTHM got sponsorship from the Malaysian Food and Beverage Executives Association and Eciatto.

Eciatto sponsored the tools for the competition. Two UTHM students Muhammad Haikal Azhar and Noor Izzati Hassan won the bronze medal in the “Espresso & Cappuchino” category.

The “Best Espresso” category was won by Ronaldo Braushi from the City Of Glasgow College, UK while the “Best Cappuchino” category was won by Cheng Qingqing and the “Best Signature Drinks” category by Li Rongrong, both students at ZJTIE.

UTHM deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman opened the competition.

Also present were the representative to the director-general of the Polytechnics and Community College Education Department, Noor Azmi Asmawi and ZJTIE External Relations Department director Tony Zheng Gangqiang.
