PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): More than 1.6 million people packed the Cambodian capital on Wednesday (April 14) for the second day of the Khmer New Year, as authorities reported a festive atmosphere across six major venues.

The “Nokor Sankranta” event drew more than 1.5 million domestic revellers and over 17,900 foreign tourists on April 15, according to Phnom Penh Municipal Administration spokesperson Dor Samphors.

Celebrations for Vireak Wanabat — the traditional second day of the New Year — took place at several sites, including the former Phnom Penh International Airport, Wat Phnom, and the Chaktomuk Walk Street, which runs from the Night Market to the Royal Palace.

No major security incidents were reported during the festivities. The six-day event, organised by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia and the municipal authorities, runs until Sunday (April 19).
