Retired cop ordered to enter defence for drug trafficking charge

SEREMBAN: A retired policeman has been ordered by the High Court here to enter his defence over a charge of trafficking 573.6g of cannabis.

In her judgment, Judge Datuk Rohani Ismail said the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the 66-year-old accused Aminuddin Amir.

"After taking into account testimonies by witnesses, submissions by parties and an overall assessment, the court finds that the prosecution has proven an element of trafficking against the accused and also having the drug in his possession.

"He is hereby ordered to enter his defence to the charge as required under Section 180 of the Criminal Procedure Code," she said.

The accused was charged with committing the offence at a hut behind his house in Kg Bukit Kerdas, Jempol on Sept 14, 2022.

He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which is punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same legislation.

Offenders can be sentenced to death or jailed between 30 and 40 years and whipped upon conviction.

Rohani then fixed the trial for Oct 2 and 3.
