Lorry rams into 11 vehicles in Pasir Gudang, three injured

JOHOR BARU: Three motorists were injured in the accident where a trailer lorry rammed into 11 other vehicles along the Pasir Gudang highway here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the victims - two women and a man - sustained minor injuries to their face following the accident at KM11.1 of the highway near Taman Daya here on Monday (March 25) afternoon.

“We believe the accident occurred when a black Continental car coming from Perling tried to enter the right lane from the middle lane.

“The trailer lorry, driven by a man in his 40s, tried to avoid the car, but the driver lost control of the heavy vehicle and hit the divider before swerving into the opposite lane heading towards Perling,” he said in a statement.

He added that the trailer lorry then rammed into eight cars and three lorries that were in slow-moving traffic.

ACP Raub also said the victims, in their 20s and 60s, were sent to Hospital Sultan Ismail for medical attention. No fatalities were reported.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged witnesses to head to the Johor Baru South traffic police station to assist in investigations.

Earlier, the 4pm accident reportedly brought traffic to a standstill along the busy highway.

A dashboard camera footage and photos of the accident made rounds on social media.

Meanwhile, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department said the accident also resulted in oil spills on the road.

“We used sawdust and a water pump to clean up the area,” the department said, adding the cleaning activities ended at 5.44pm.
