Samy Vellu's demise a great loss, he will be remembered, says Dr Wee


PETALING JAYA: Tun S. Samy Vellu's demise is a great loss to society and the country, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong in conveying his condolences to the family of former Cabinet minister who passed away on Thursday (Sept 15).

“His demise is a great loss to society and the country.

“The services and sacrifices of the late Samy Vellu during his tenure as MIC president and Cabinet minister will always be remembered.

“May his soul rest in peace,” the MCA president said in a Facebook post Thursday (Sept 15).

Samy Vellu was 86.

He was the Sungai Siput MP from 1974 to 2008, served as Works Minister from 1983 to 1989 and again from 1995 to 2008.

He is the longest-serving MIC president after holding the position for 31 years from 1979 to 2010.

He was also one of the longest-serving ministers, serving in the Cabinet for 29 years.
