Exercise your voting right, millennials

Young voters in Batu Pahat doing their duty in the last general election in 2013.

WHERE do young Malaysians stand in the scheme of things in the coming general election? Here are some statements related to youths and the election in the media of late.

“The youths are still confused as to who to vote for or if they should even bother voting.”

“Already registered. Maybe (I'll) vote for the candidate my family chooses.”

“Some youths, who are eligible to vote, are not registered or fulfilling their rights and responsibilities.”

I fall under the youth category, and while I would rather deny that there is truth to these statements, I have to agree that there are young voters who seem adrift..

On the other hand, one must point out that not all youths are like that. There are many vocal young people who express what needs to change in the country.
