SURVEY after survey had been done over the years about upgrading and widening Jalan Welfare in Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh.
However to-date, this narrow road is prone to massive traffic jam made worse by flashfloods, potholes and concrete spills.
The road was planned to be upgraded in 2008 and even the relevant signboard was installed. Then — for reasons unknown — the upgrading was called off, to the dismay of the residents.
This is the sole access road to the village, which also has the largest SME hub in the whole of Selangor. There are hundreds of factories in the industrial side of Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh. One can imagine the congestion and anxiety facing the residents, workers and factory owners.
All of a sudden, Public Works Department (JKR) decided to install large drains along this narrow road.
The deep drains are causing another problem — vehicles slipping and veering into the drain due to lack of space. This causes further congestion, aggravating the situation.
The priority and urgency should be to widen Jalan Welfare. The residents hope the Works Ministry and the JKR will urgently look into upgrading the road into four lanes.
