THE public have been urged to play their part in keeping Johor clean, especially as the state prepares for Visit Johor Year 2026.

Johor unity, heritage, and culture committee chairman K. Raven Kumar said continuous effort from all parties was needed to ensure cleanliness remained at the highest level.

“There have been improvements in cleanliness but we have yet to reach the highest standard.

“A lot more effort is still required and I hope the public will share this responsibility instead of leaving it entirely to the government,” he said when met after viewing new murals in Johor Baru city.

Raven Kumar praised Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) and other local authorities for their increased focus on cleanliness.

He said the issue was emphasised on by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and hoped the public would do their part.

On the Visit Johor Year 2026 campaign, Raven Kumar said the focus areas would include cultural and heritage tourism.

“If we look around Johor Baru, we can see many buildings and establishments highlighting cultural tourism.

“This includes mosques, temples, churches and shops selling traditional food.

“We also have Kompleks Warisan Sultan Abu Bakar helping to promote our culture,” he said, adding that the campaign’s other focus areas included a theme park and medical tourism.

On the new murals, Raven Kumar said they were a collaborative effort between MBJB and Johor Mentri Besar’s office to beautify the city.

“The murals adorning walls along Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, Jalan Lee Thye Heng and Jalan Segget were inspired by Johor’s culture, history and beauty.

“This project not only enhances the visual appeal of Johor Baru, but also provides a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and make a positive impact on the community.”

The murals, Raven Kumar said, were created by artist Muhammad Nabil Mohd Azahari.

“Each mural reflects Johor’s rich heritage and culture, marking an important step in establishing Johor Baru as a centre for culture and arts.

“The initiative is expected to attract tourists and inspire the younger generation to pursue their artistic passion.”
