UP to RM800,000 in financial aid will be distributed this year to help needy students, single-parent families and underprivileged households.
The Khor Teng Tong and Hunza Charity aims to disburse between RM600,000 and RM800,000, with half of the funds earmarked for students’ educational needs and the remainder for struggling families, the elderly and other needy individuals.
During its 2025/2026 financial year, the charity distributed RM392,700 to 911 beneficiaries, comprising 549 schoolchildren from B40 families, 47 single-parent families and 315 needy individuals, including patients facing financial difficulties.
Hunza Properties Group founder and executive adviser Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong said the charity worked with various schools and organisations to identify and assist those in need.
“We distribute to different schools and organisations to help needy students, single parents and underprivileged households.
“Since the fund was launched in 2023, a total of RM1.54mil has been disbursed to 4,101 beneficiaries.
“The funds were raised through events, including my birthday dinner and Hunza’s 45th anniversary celebration in 2023, with contributions from subsidiary companies and myself.
“Our aim is to ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most, regardless of ethnicity, especially children, families, the elderly and the sick who are facing acute hardship,” Khor said during a press conference at Hunza Tower in George Town, Penang.
The charity channels assistance through three programmes – Education Outreach Project for needy students, Single Parent Outreach for single-parent households and Helping Hands Outreach for impoverished elderly people and those facing financial difficulties.
Khor said the organisation has no plans to open the fund to public contributions before it obtained tax-exempt status.
