Fifteen selected welfare homes nationwide will receive support from retail chain Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd (Mydin) through its “A Brighter Deepavali” campaign.

Executive director Ahimmat Mydin said the campaign reflected the store’s commitment to sharing Deepavali joy with underprivileged communities.

“For Mydin, festive celebrations are not only about promotions and sales, but also an opportunity to extend support to those in need.

“Through this campaign, we hope to ensure that the spirit and joy of Deepavali can be felt by the communities we serve,” he said in a statement.

Through its “Mydin Prihatin” initiative, the retailer and its supplier partners will contribute RM100,000 in cash vouchers and essential goods to 15 welfare homes registered under the Welfare Department.

Ahimmat said the public could also contribute essential items through donation baskets placed at selected Mydin stores until Oct 30.

“Customers are also encouraged to contribute so that more people can experience the joy of Deepavali through the assistance, which will be distributed from Nov 1 to 8,” he said.

The campaign was launched by Deputy National Unity Minister Yuneswaran Ramaraj at Mydin Seremban 2.

The campaign also features a Bombay Bazaar, in collaboration with Taaka Lee Studio, providing a platform for Indian micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses to showcase their products to shoppers.

Ahimmat said the bazaar offered small businesses a chance to expand their reach while introducing their products and the Indian culture to a wider audience.

“Mydin remains committed to supporting local small entrepreneurs by providing them with opportunities to access a wider market.

“Through Bombay Bazaar, we are not only creating economic opportunities for small businesses, but also giving our customers the opportunity to discover and experience the diverse range of products they have to offer,” he said.
