STUDENTS of SMK St Joseph Papar in Sabah can now enjoy safer and more reliable transportation following the donation of a 28-seater coaster bus by Berjaya Cares Foundation (BCF).

The contribution was part of BCF’s ongoing efforts to support education and student welfare, particularly in rural and suburban communities, the foundation said in a statement.

The new bus was expected to benefit students not only in their daily commute, but also by providing access to educational trips, co-curricular programmes, competitions and other activities beyond the classroom, it said.

BCF, the charitable arm of Berjaya Corporation Bhd, also distributed 500 Bakul Rahmah hampers containing daily essentials to underprivileged students and their families.

The contributions were presented by BCF chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan to school principal Jenith Mahibol, in the presence of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister and Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, during a ceremony at the school.

Tan hoped the initiative would create meaningful opportunities for students and teachers alike.

“Every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and dream without being held back by circumstances,” he said.

“We hope this contribution will make a positive difference to the school community and provide students with greater opportunities to participate in experiences both inside and outside the classroom.”

Tan added that investing in education was one of the most meaningful ways to build a better future.

“By supporting our young people today, we are helping them gain the confidence, knowledge and experiences needed to shape brighter futures for themselves, their families and communities.

“This bus is more than just a means of transportation.

“It represents greater access, greater opportunity and the freedom for students to take part in experiences that can inspire them to learn and achieve more.

“We hope it will serve the school community for many years to come,” he said.

Founded in 1953 as part of St Joseph School, SMK St Joseph Papar is the oldest secondary school in the district.

Today, the school serves about 1,000 students and is recognised for its commitment to academic excellence, character development and holistic education.
