A TWO-DAY festival in Kuching, Sarawak, brought together nearly 1,000 participants to celebrate Borneo’s rich cultural heritage through arts, music and dance.
The MSU Sarathnic Fest 3.0 by MSU College Sarawak featured a series of competitions and activities involving students from 24 secondary schools, as well as college students and staff.
MSU president and founder Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid said initiatives such as MSU Sarathnic Fest were aligned with MSU’s aspiration to develop holistic graduates who excelled academically with strong qualities of leadership and creativity.
“The success of the festival is a reflection of the close cooperation among all parties who share the aspiration to preserve and empower Borneo’s cultural heritage,” he said during the closing ceremony.
Held at the Kuching Waterfront, the festival kicked off with the MSU Ethno-Robic Competition 2026 and MSU Ethno Mentoring Fashion Show Competition 2026.
It encouraged students to showcase their creativity through fitness, ethnic dance and culturally-inspired fashion.
The event also featured MSU Sarathnic Senam Tari 2026, a public fitness activity combining traditional and modern dance.
This was followed by the MSU Sarathnic Pua Kumbu Plogging Run 2026, which combined recreational running with community clean-up activities to promote environmental awareness and sustainable living.
The MSU Sarathnic Race 2026 challenged participants in communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving.
The festival also featured several competitions, with MT Falcon A of SMK Muara Tuang emerging as the top team in the MSU Sarathnic Race 2026.
The Calliope of SMK Tarat and Anak Dalam Gading (ADG) of SMK Lundu won the choral speaking and dance competitions respectively.
Other awards recognised students for leadership, performance and creativity.
The festival also strengthened collaboration among educational institutions, communities, industry and other stakeholders.
It supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals too, particularly those related to health and well-being, quality education, reduced inequalities, sustainable communities and partnerships.
