MBSA clinches two tourism awards

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) won two titles at the Tourism Industry Award 2026 gala dinner, held in Bandar Sunway, Selangor.

It was recognised in the Best Orchid Garden Malaysia category through its Shah Alam Orchid Garden and Best Arts and Culture Activities Venue category through the Santai Seni @ Laman Budaya programme in Section 14 in the city.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari launched the event.

Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zabidah Safar received the awards from Selangor local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim.

Also present were MBSA community development department director Shahrin Ahmad and MBSA councillor Firdaus Mokhtar.

“The recognition proves MBSA’s ability to develop and strengthen tourism products based on the uniqueness of nature, floriculture, art, culture and community involvement, thus strengthening Shah Alam’s image as a city with diverse tourist attractions,” MBSA corporate and public relations department director Mohd Fauzi Aziz Maamor said in a statement.

The Shah Alam Orchid Garden is located at Tasik Barat, Taman Tasik Shah Alam.

It was developed as an exhibition centre and houses a collection of local and international orchids.

It is also in line with MBSA’s efforts to strengthen Shah Alam’s identity as an “Orchid City”.

“Winning the Best Arts and Culture Activities Venue award through the Santai Seni @ Laman Budaya programme highlights the role of public venues in bringing art and culture closer to the community,” said Mohd Fauzi.

Laman Budaya is a public cultural space that functions as a location for various community, art and cultural activities.

The Santai Seni programme includes live performances, music, dance and busking, as well as interactive art activities such as batik painting, handicraft workshops and art exhibitions.

This approach makes Laman Budaya a place that combines elements of art, culture and community in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, added Mohd Fauzi.

“The achievement is expected to drive ongoing efforts to strengthen Shah Alam’s tourism products.

“Furthermore, it aims to enhance the city’s appeal as a competitive, inclusive destination with a unique cultural, artistic and natural identity.”
