Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has rolled out its second “Gerobok Rezeki” initiative, this time at Masjid Subang Bestari in Section U5.

Working with the Zone 18 Residents Representative Council (MPP), MBSA set up a community cupboard at the mosque and stocked it with RM5,000 worth of daily essentials, including rice, cooking oil, eggs, condensed milk, flour, sugar, salt, soy sauce and chilli sauce.

During the launch, the city council also presented a RM3,000 contribution to the mosque’s management.

Present were MBSA deputy secretary (management) Shahrin Ahmad and MBSA councillor and Zone 18 MPP chairman Sarimah Lisut.

The “Gerobok Rezeki” programme is a community‑based food bank aimed at supporting the underprivileged, low‑income families and students.

Operating on the principle of “take what you need, give what you can”, the cupboards are placed in high‑traffic public locations such as mosques and educational institutions.

MBSA previously launched a similar cupboard at Surau Al‑Mustaqimah in Section 7 in April, following several installations in 2025 and 2024.

Once set up, the cupboards are managed by the respective mosque or institution.

“This initiative is an ongoing commitment by MBSA to ease the burden of those in need.

“At the same time, we encourage those who can afford it to contribute items,” said MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Department director Mohd Fauzi Aziz Maamor.
