PJ celebrates 20 years of city status

Fireworks display to mark the 20th anniversary of Petaling Jaya attaining city status.

The 20th anniversary of Petaling Jaya attaining city status was marked with a six-day celebration.

Organised by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the 20th Petaling Jaya City Anniversary Festival featured 11 flagship programmes and six complimentary public services to commemorate the milestone.

The festival was launched at Laman MBPJ, Jalan Yong Shook Lin, by Selangor housing and culture committee chairman Datuk Bor­han Aman Shah and Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Zah­ri Samingon.

Over a thousand people gathered to witness the launch, which included performances and fireworks display.

This year’s theme was “PJ: The Happiest and Most Sustainable City”.

The wide range of activities organised included community programmes, charitable initiatives, healthy lifestyle activities and environmental sustainability campaign. The activities provided opportunities for residents across Petaling Jaya to participate.
