Ipoh City Council pays tribute to 71 retirees at annual appreciation event

IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) honoured 71 retirees for their years of dedicated service during its annual “Jasamu Dikenang” programme.

The recipients comprised 52 mandatory retirees, 10 optional retirees and nine former employees who had passed away.

Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah said the event was more than just a farewell gathering, describing it as an opportunity to recognise those who had helped shape and strengthen the council over the years.

“Every policy implemented, public facility maintained, complaint resolved and service delivered to city residents reflected the dedication and hard work of the officers and staff who had worked in MBI.

“We are also grateful for the contributions of retirees in helping to improve city infrastructure, maintain public parks, enhance cleanliness, strengthen licensing and enforcement, and support development planning and revenue collection.

“I expressed my deepest appreciation to all retirees for their loyalty, commitment and sacrifices throughout their years of service,” he said in his speech at the event held at the Ipoh Convention Centre here on Thursday (July 9).

Zamakhshari also paid special tribute to the nine retirees who had passed away, extending his condolences to their families and noting that their contributions would remain part of MBI’s history.

He also recognised the role played by the families of public servants, saying the support of spouses, children and loved ones had enabled employees to carry out their responsibilities, often at the expense of personal time and holidays.

Addressing current employees, he urged them to view the ceremony as a reminder that every day of service contributes to the legacy they will eventually leave behind.

“The true measure of public service is not the length of one’s tenure but the values, integrity and professionalism left for future generations.

“Embrace retirement as a new chapter in life rather than an end, using the opportunity to focus on health, families, community service, religious activities and personal interests,” he added.
