The Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) service is now accessible following a two-day disruption.

Several functions including parking payment for users in Selangor and other areas nationwide using the same platform were inaccessible during the period.

It was reported that the SIP provider Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI) had temporarily suspended the system to enable the recovery process, as well as ensure the system’s security and integrity of users’ data.

At about 10am yesterday, Rantaian Mesra announced that the system was back to normal.

It was earlier reported that the system had to be shut down due to a massive cyberattack.

A total of 64 local councils nationwide were affected by the disruption.

Enforcement officers were told to hold off issuing summonses during the period.

It was also reported that transition to the Flexi Parking system led to the widespread disruptions.

Motorist S. Sarala said she encountered difficulties paying for parking in SS3, Petaling Jaya after attempting to use the Flexi Parking 2.0 app.

Assuming the issue was with her phone, she drove to another area only to experience the same problem.

“I also tried paying through the Touch ‘n Go and Smart Selangor apps, but it kept saying there was no Internet connection,” she said.

“I restarted my phone but the apps still wouldn’t allow me to make payment.

“Then I noticed a car nearby with a note on its windscreen saying the owner had also been unable to pay for parking.

“That’s when I realised there was a problem with the system.”

Sarala said she was glad that the system was back, as it was very worrying to not be able to pay and risk being fined.

Another motorist, Samuel Lee, also initially believed the problem was with his phone.

“I was in Kota Damansara having breakfast when I tried to pay for parking using the Flexi Parking 2.0 app, but it failed to detect my location through GPS.

“It kept displaying a message saying there was no Internet connection, even though my phone was connected.

“I took a screenshot of the error message just in case I was issued a compound for not making payment,” he said.

Now that the system has been restored, the public is advised to ensure that parking charges are paid as usual in accordance with the prescribed rates and parking duration.

This is to avoid any enforcement action, Rangkaian Mesra said in statement.
