STAMPED with history and now humming with new energy, Kuala Lumpur’s Old General Post Office in Block 2 of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad has reopened as a vibrant cultural and culinary space in the heart of the city.

The 119‑year‑old landmark, designed by AB Hubback in 1907, once sorted letters and parcels long before messages could be fired off with a tap of the finger.

After a 15‑month restoration, the 49,888sq ft building reopened last month under Khazanah Nasional’s Dana Warisan initiative, drawing more than 5,000 visitors on its first day.

Much of its original character has been lovingly revived. Horseshoe arches, sweeping staircases and intricate plasterwork provide a glimpse of the Mughal-inspired architecture that once defined Kuala Lumpur’s historic core.

Today, local retail, dining and cultural spaces fill the building, blending heritage with contemporary creativity.

Visitors can also take part in the “Warkah Untuk Malaysia” campaign, penning hopes and messages to the nation through handwritten postcards or digital platforms.
