POSCO Malaysia employees removed large and overgrown trees that posed serious safety risks at SMK Pulau Indah in Port Klang, Selangor, as part of its corporate social responsibility activity.
Due to their height and proximity to school buildings, the trees damaged rooftops and threatened the structural integrity of the facilities.
Held in conjunction with Posco Group’s annual 2026 Global Volunteer Week, the initiative by 40 of its employees was to support safety improvement work at the school.
In a statement, the company said beehives formed on the trees also created another dangerous situation, raising further concerns.
Although the school had long been aware of the risks, budget constraints prevented proper maintenance, the company said.
It then arranged for professional contractors to cut down and dispose of the trees, helping to create a safer and more secure learning environment for the students and teachers of the school.
Posco Malaysia managing director Kim Jang-chul said: “This volunteer activity goes beyond simple environmental improvements – it directly addresses safety concerns affecting children’s lives.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, Posco Malaysia will continue to listen to the needs of the local community and carry out practical CSR activities that make a real difference,” he added.
Posco Group is a global steel and materials company headquartered in South Korea. It operates in more than 50 countries worldwide.
