A back lane in Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur, will be turned into a traffic route to improve waste collection, accessibility and traffic flow.
The pedestrianised area sits between Jalan 25/70A and Jalan 24/70A, opposite the Sri Hartamas Fire and Rescue station.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud said garbage lorries were unable to enter the area currently, forcing workers to pull bins and waste out to the roadside.
The project, a collaboration between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and a company, will cover Lot 55132, with a proposed connection to Lot 55131.
Works will include rebuilding the back lane with concrete pavement, constructing a new pedestrian walkway, improving the drainage system, relocating and rearranging utilities and installing safety features such as speed humps and bollards.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the project was important to ensure smooth traffic flow during emergencies.
“This project was requested by the residents’ representative council and stakeholders.
“Any improvement carried out by DBKL must take into account the views of the local community so that the solution meets actual needs on the ground,” she said.
Desa Sri Hartamas Residents Association chairman Abu Bakar Ibrahim, who was present, thanked DBKL for accepting feedback.
Work is expected to begin in August, with a handover expected by early next year.
The press conference was held after the handover of an automated external defibrillator (AED) unit to the fire station.
