A CONSUMER, who only wanted to be known as Yong, filed a report at the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal after a massage chair he bought as a Christmas gift for his father-in-law was not delivered on time.
The 37-year-old said he bought the massage chair during a roadshow at a shopping centre in Jalan Kota Tinggi, Johor Baru, last Oct 27.
“I specifically asked the salesman whether the chair could be delivered before Christmas and they assured me that it could, so I proceeded with the purchase,” he said outside the Tribunal at Menara Ansar in Johor Baru.
Yong, who works as an information technology support staff, said the RM1,980 chair was supposed to come with a complimentary neck pillow worth RM39.90.
He claimed the company failed to provide updates on the delivery despite repeated follow-ups.
“By the end of November, we contacted them again but they said the company was still not ready to deliver the chair.
“After waiting for weeks without any confirmation, we decided to request a refund on Jan 5.
“The next day, they suddenly called and informed me that the chair could be delivered, but by then I no longer wanted to proceed because they had already broken their promise,” he said.
Yong also described the experience as disappointing, adding that the company made a “big issue” over the refund despite the item costing less than RM2,000.
The claimant added that he had to return the complimentary neck pillow in order to proceed with the refund request.
Tribunal president Lee Chee Thim ordered the respondent to refund RM1,980 to the claimant.
He also ordered the claimant to return the neck pillow to the respondent.
