KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will allow business licence renewal for up to three years beginning July 1, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh says.
Yeoh said it was an effort to make the capital’s business ecosystem more efficient and business-friendly,
As an added incentive, she said DBKL would provide a 5% discount for two-year renewals and a 10% discount for three-year renewals.
However, it is subject to conditions, including that the licensee has no outstanding compounds or rental arrears with DBKL.
Yeoh said all parties involved would benefit from this initiative.
“Many of these traders may need loans from banks or financiers.
“If the licence is only for one year, it is difficult for banks or financiers to assess whether this business will still be profitable next year.
“Business licence renewal every year involves hidden costs such as manpower and operational costs.
“There are also banks that need a licence for more than one year if the licensee wants to open a business account,” she said during a press conference at Menara Seri Wilayah in Precinct 2, Putrajaya.
Also present were Federal Territories Department director-general Datuk Mohammad Azmi Mohd Zain and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.
Fadlun said the business licences could be renewed online via DBKL eLesen portal at https://elesen.dbkl.gov.my in under three minutes.
“Those not familiar with the online system can get help at the DBKL counters and enjoy the same discounts,” he said.
The categories eligible to be considered for multi-year renewals include office premises, workshops and engineering, livestock and agriculture, warehouses and storage, hotels, manufacturing and industrial processing, food and beverage, as well as trade and commerce.
The initiative is expected to benefit about 95,000 licensees in Kuala Lumpur.
