In a groundbreaking initiative, Negri Sembilan Kerala Samajam (NSKS) became the first such organisation in Malaysia to organise a hash run.
The event, in conjunction with its upcoming 70th anniversary, attracted over 70 participants of all ages, with attendees travelling from as far as Penang and Johor.
The run took participants along the scenic yet challenging route up Arulmigu Maha Sapthakannika Devi Temple (Kanni Kovil) in Taman Bukit Kepayang, Seremban.
Despite a downpour, participants carried on with determination, navigating the slippery and challenging route in a display of resilience and community spirit.
The event concluded with a warm dinner and fellowship session.
Participants bonded over shared experiences, reinforcing the strong sense of camaraderie, according to a media release by NSKS.
“I am both humbled and proud of the strong support for this event, which reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering community engagement.
“We look forward to receiving the same enthusiastic support for our 70th anniversary dinner on June 20 in Seremban,” said NSKS president Sukumaran KS Nair.
The story of NSKS is deeply rooted in the migration of Malayalees to Malaya, where early settlers sought to preserve their identity, language and cultural traditions while supporting one another far away from their homeland.
NSKS is the first officially registered Malayalee community organisation in Malaysia, established in 1956, and has long been a pillar of cultural preservation and unity among Malaysians of Kerala origin.
It has upheld its mission to unite the Malayalee community, promote the Malayalam language and cultural heritage and provide social support.
The dinner, to be held at Regent Hall, is expected to bring together 1,000 people and is open to all Malaysians.
“This 70-year milestone is a testament to the enduring strength and unity of our community,” added Sukumaran.
