JOHOR is nearing its target of over 1,200 electric vehicle (EV) chargers by 2030 with over one-third already installed as in April this year.
State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the state was committed to promoting environmentally friendly approaches through various initiatives such as the Johor Green Development Policy 2030 (PPHJ2030).
“Our goal is to encourage the use of renewable technology and promote sustainability, including encouraging EV adoption among the public.
“To promote the use of EVs, we aim to set up 1,245 charging stations statewide by 2030.
“We are getting closer to achieving this goal as there are already more than 500 facilities throughout Johor,” he told StarMetro.

Apart from private vehicles like cars and motorcycles the state government was also promoting the use of electric buses, he said.
“We have cross-border bus services between Johor and Singapore that have been using electric buses since 2024.
“Besides that, some of the shuttle buses within town are also electric-powered and our local councils have also been using EVs for their operations,” he said.
“These are all good signs, indicating that we are getting closer to our goals.”
Ling said transport companies including bus operators were encouraged to adopt EVs as part of their environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.

He had earlier said that the state government aimed to have 15,000 EVs and 1,245 charging stations by 2030 as part of Johor’s green transportation policy.
The policy caters to visitors from Singapore, as only cleaner energy vehicles would be allowed for registration there from 2030.
In April 2024, Johor became the first state to offer a cross- border electric bus service, introduced by bus operator Handal Indah Sdn Bhd.
During the Handal Indah launch, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had said that apart from providing 60 electric buses travelling between Johor and Singapore, the operator would also set up charging stations.
