Selangor to study 500 new EV charging bay locations

SHAH ALAM: Selangor is studying proposals to install an additional 500 electric vehicle charging bays (EVCB) across the state.

State investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the proposals were submitted by the Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam city councils, as well as Hulu Selangor and Ampang Jaya municipal councils.

Selangor currently has 1,090 EVCBs statewide.

“The locations will be assessed by WorldWide Holdings Berhad (WHB), the state’s appointed coordinating agency for charging point operators, to determine their suitability,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after witnessing the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between WHB and USTEU Hong Kong Limited (USTEU) for EVCB development at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor Tuesday (April 28).

Ng said early development of charging infrastructure was crucial to boost EV adoption.

“People will be more confident to switch to EVs when charging facilities are readily available and accessible.

“This initiative also aligns with Selangor’s target of 4,000 EVCBs by 2030,” he added.

Under the MoU, WHB will act as programme manager for EV infrastructure development in Selangor, coordinating implementation, aligning efforts with state priorities and overseeing the statewide rollout.

USTEU, meanwhile, will serve as the technology provider, delivering EV charging solutions and technical expertise.

Also present were WHB group chief executive officer Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria, USTEU chairman Tao Xu and Selangor deputy state secretary Datuk Johary Anuar.
