Drive-through recycling centre makes it more accessible for Jasin locals

JASIN: Recycling has been made more accessible for locals here with the launch of a new drive-through facility aimed at encouraging greater participation in sustainable practices.

SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the new KITARecycle Drive-Through Centre (PPLK) was developed at the Taman Muhibbah car park area through a strategic collaboration with the Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ).

"This initiative is part of our efforts to further strengthen recycling activities, particularly among the local community,” he said after the PPLK was launched by Melaka executive councillor Datuk Zulkiflee Mohd Zin on Thursday (April 23)

Also present was MPJ president Muhammad Zahiruddin Mohd Zahari.

Mohd Norlisam said under the KITARecycle programme, registered members who send their recyclable items will receive Recycling Points (RP), which can be redeemed as cash through online banking.

He said the cabin-type facility is the third of its kind in the state, after Taman Botanikal Melaka in Ayer Keroh and PPR Sungai Putat in Batu Berendam, with three additional KITARecycle drop-off collection points also available across the state

Based on data generated from the KITARecycle application, he said recyclable collection in Jasin district reached 115 tonnes between 2020 and 2025.

“With this facility, recycling collection is expected to increase further with an initial target of a 20% rise in 2026 compared with the previous year,” he added.
