Newlyweds’ full-glam hike to hilltop wedding do impresses netizens

HIKING up a 192m hill in songket wedding attire is impressive, but holding a wedding reception at the summit, complete with food and decorations, may be extraordinary.

Newlyweds Haniin Omar, 50, and Rahmat Samad, 60, who are members of a Selangor hiking group, held their function atop Bukit 527 in Salak Perdana, Sepang.

More than 200 guests were also present in formal outfits.

A video of the reception went viral on social media after it was posted by a wedding guest.

Bride Haniin said the idea came from members of their group, Tebas Hikers.

“A canopy, surau and toilets were already available at the hilltop,” she said, “so it was a matter of carrying everything else up the hill.”

“Getting the food up there required teamwork,” said Haniin.

“Since there were many of us, each helped to carry something,” she shared.

“We invited mainly members of Tebas Hikers and some friends from other groups,” she told Bernama.

Haniin, from Muar in Johor, said it was one of the most memorable moments of her life.

“We are used to hiking, so wearing outfits like baju kurung or baju melayu is not a problem.

“But songket is thick and restrictive, so we had to walk up slowly.

“It usually takes us about 10 minutes to reach the top, but it took us around 35 minutes in our wedding outfits,” she said.

Guests enjoyed a traditional spread of nasi minyak, ayam masak merah, daging masak hitam, dalca, pajeri and fruits at the hilltop wedding venue.

The couple earlier held the akad nikah (solemnisation) at Masjid Kariah Bukit Kadir in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.
