TWO low-cost private flats in Ampang, Selangor, have been identified as being in urgent need of repainting.

Teratai assemblyman Yew Jia Haur said the flats were Flat Pandan Perdana and Flat Bukit Segar Block A3.

He said both buildings, constructed in the 1990s, have not been repainted for around 20 years.

“I have submitted the necessary documents to the state government for consideration under the Projek Selangor Penyayang allocation,” he said during a visit to Flat Pandan Perdana to inform residents of the news.

Yew said the flats were plagued by maintenance issues, partly due to poor collection of maintenance fees.

“As a result, the management bodies have been unable to carry out much upkeep.

“I have been informed that there are also other problems, such as leaking roofs and roads in poor condition, which also need to be addressed under different allocations,” he said.

Flat Pandan Perdana Rukun Tetangga chairman Rausi Sandi said the residents were hopeful that their application would be approved.

“The maintenance fee for these five-storey walk-up flats is only RM22 a month, yet many residents have not been paying.

“There are many tenants who have disputes with the flats’ owners on who should pay the fee, so the fee never gets paid,” he said.

As such, Rausi said the management body could not do much with so little funds.

“Even when incidents such as roofs being blown off by strong winds occurred, affected residents on the upper floors have had to pay for repairs out of their own pockets,” he said.

Flat Pandan Perdana consists of two blocks with 300 units in total.

Also present for the visit was Ampang Jaya Municipal Council councillor Stella Leong Sin Yin.
