IN honouring the spirit of togetherness and compassion, national sewerage company Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd hosted a breaking of fast event, bringing together members of its Sahabat Istimewa programme, local communities and petty traders.

The event was part of IWK’s ongoing “Sahabat Istimewa IWK” programme, an initiative dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities while promoting inclusivity, accessibility and meaningful participation in the community.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, presented duit raya to guests.

He also visited the Ramadan Carnival at IWK Eco Park, an initiative to provide business opportunities to petty traders in Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur.

Fadillah, alongside IWK’s management team, also distributed 500 food packs to members of the local community for the breaking of fast.

The meals were purchased from the traders at IWK Ramadan Carnival.

Representatives from several organisations, including Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia dan Pengajian Pekak, Persatuan OKU Sentral, Persatuan Kebajikan Ahsana KL, National Autism Society of Malaysia and Chow Kit Foundation, as well as members of the surrounding community and local traders were among the guests at the event.

IWK chief executive officer Narendran Maniam said the initiative ensured that families could share an iftar meal and it also supported the livelihoods of local entrepreneurs, reflecting how simple acts of kindness could uplift a community.

“Amid global uncertainties, we are grateful to be able to share with our friends from the disabled group and the surrounding communities.

“Ramadan reminds us that it is also about blessings, sharing, caring and strengthening our sense of community.

“We are honoured to celebrate this spirit with our Sahabat Istimewa and the wider community, from handing out duit raya, sharing meals and distributing food packs to supporting our local traders,” said Narendran.
