SOME 2,000 packs of bubur lambuk were distributed in reusable food containers at a Ramadan bazaar in Putrajaya to promote sustainable practices.

It was part of the “Tapau Elak Sisa” campaign organised by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd in Precinct 3, aiming to reduce single-use packaging and curb food waste, which increases at this time of year and ends up in landfills.

Alam Flora chief executive officer Shariman Yusuf Mohamed Zain said reusable food containers were an effective way to reduce solid waste.

“During Ramadan, increased food purchasing often contributes to a rise in packaging waste.

“The campaign encourages the public to bring their own food containers or tiffin carriers.

“It promotes a reuse culture not just at Ramadan but in our daily lives too,” he said.

Shariman said people bringing their own food containers could also reduce over-purchasing and food wastage.

“Small changes in daily habits can make a significant difference to the environment.

“If these practices are adopted, it will contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment in the long term.”

The campaign aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
