SOME 200 representatives of Chinese associations, guilds and clans attended a Chinese New Year gathering and tossed yee sang to usher in the Year of the Horse.

The event at a restaurant in Mentakab, Pahang, was jointly organised by Federation of Temerloh Chinese Associations, Temerloh Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Temerloh Dancing Association.

In addition to cultural performances and a lion dance, the crowd was treated to a sumptuous meal and a special appearance by the God of Wealth.

Temerloh Chinese Chamber and Temerloh Dancing Association president Datuk Seiko Chew Kim Pong said the programme was a good platform to foster closer ties and networking.

Chew said the tradition should be preserved to maintain a close-knit relationship among groups.

“We would like to thank all parties for accepting our invitation to get together.

“Special thanks to the organising committee for their hard work and commitment in putting together the programme,” he said.

According to Chew, such programmes could help to strengthen camaraderie and friendship so that they could face challenges and address pressing issues together.

Federation of Temerloh Chinese Associations president Datuk Henry Wong Tat Chee urged the people to stay united and help bring prosperity to Temerloh and Mentakab.

He said the business fraternity was facing many challenges due to the sluggish economy and global uncertainty.

“I am confident we can persevere by looking after one another and working closely together.” — By SIMON KHOO
