Tribunal orders full refund for undelivered massage chair

A 37-year-old woman purchased a massage chair as a Christmas gift for her father last year, but it never arrived.

The quantity surveyor who only wanted to be known as Ching, said she made the purchase on Oct 25, 2025, during a roadshow held at a mall in Johor Baru.

Ching, from Bandar Putra Kulai, paid RM1,980 using a credit card.

“The salesperson promised that the chair would be delivered on Nov 25,” she said when met outside Johor Baru Consumer Claims Tribunal, where she filed a claim for a refund.

Ching said the chair did not arrive as promised, but the retailer reassured her it would be delivered before Dec 25.

She waited until the end of December, and when the item still did not arrive, filed her claim at the Tribunal in Menara Ansar on Jan 5 and informed the retailer the next day.

“They immediately called me back and promised that the chair would be delivered on Jan 7,” she said.

By then, Ching was already feeling disappointed and tired of their broken promises, which included a pledge to deliver before Chinese New Year.

“It was so stressful dealing with people who keep on making promises but fail to deliver.

“I only wanted my money back,” she said.

Tribunal president Lee Chee Thim ordered the respondent to return RM1,980 plus RM100 in transportation costs to the claimant within two weeks.

During the proceeding, Ching had asked Lee what she could do if the respondent failed to refund the money within the stipulated time.

Lee advised her to lodge a report with the Tribunal’s enforcement unit for failure to comply with an award or order.
