KLANG Royal City Council (MBDK) is checking on the freshness of food sold at Ramadan bazaars.
“Due to our climate, food left out can spoil quickly.
“Health inspectors have been told to focus on ensuring food is freshly cooked and properly stored.
“Food handlers should also be vaccinated for typhoid,” said Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain after chairing the full board meeting yesterday.
He reminded stall operators to adhere to strict hygiene standards such as wearing clean aprons, head covering and gloves, washing their hands and separating raw and cooked food.
“Leftovers must not be sold the next day.
“We are seeing comments on social media by bazaar visitors claiming stale food is being sold.
“This can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever and dehydration,” he said.
Abd Hamid also urged bazaar visitors to support the city’s sustainability campaign by reducing single-use plastics and replacing disposable items with sustainable alternatives.
“We want people to help reduce rubbish at landfills and to support green initiatives.
“Bring your own containers to store food,” the mayor added.
Separately, Abd Hamid said MBDK had arranged for a mobile van counter for assessment tax payment on weekends, scheduled for Aman Perdana on March 7 and 8, 9am to 1pm, and in Bandar Puteri the weekend after.
