KLANG Royal City Council (MBDK) is planning a tourist information centre to promote the city and its attractions to cruise travellers arriving at Port Klang, Selangor.
Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said plans were being drawn up to convert a city council-owned property into an information centre to highlight local tours and attractions, eateries and heritage buildings.
“Our aim is to enhance visitor experience and support local economies,” he said at the full board meeting at the MBDK headquarters in Jalan Perbandaran, Klang.
He said the information centre had to be in a central location, close to landmarks or high-traffic areas.
“The MBDK property is on Jalan Tengku Diauddin.
“It is easily accessible to landmarks like Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery, Gedung Raja Abdullah – the oldest surviving building in Klang – worship houses and Royal Klang Town Heritage Walk route,” he added.
On another matter, Abd Hamid reminded property owners to settle their assessment taxes for the first half-year of 2026 before Feb 28 to avoid a RM20 penalty.
He said those who paid up their 2026 taxes would receive a stainless-steel tumbler.
“This offer is limited to the first 7,500 ratepayers,” Abd Hamid added.
After the meeting, he presented three Modenas Kriss motorcycles to grand-prize winners of the 2026 MBDK lucky draw.
Those who paid up their 2026 taxes by Dec 15 last year were eligible to participate.
Abd Hamid said the inaugural lucky draw generated 236,124 online transactions totalling RM193mil, proving that the digital platform was gaining traction.
Winners of the motorcycles were Tan In Hong, 51, Lee Chan Fook, 62, and Wong Lai Yee, 31.
Tan and Wong were present to receive the motorcycles.
Both said they were surprised but pleased to be picked as winners.
Lee was represented by his son Shing Zhe, 24.
All three said it was a meaningful Chinese New Year gift.
Other winners received various electrical goods.
Ratepayers in Klang can get their assessment bills digitally at ipay.mpklang.gov to make payments.
