STADIUM Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur has been designated as the “Home of Sepak Takraw”, serving as the official venue for tournaments and training programmes.

The indoor facility, owned and managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), was upgraded at a cost of RM80,000 to better serve the sports community.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the designation recognised the achievements of Malaysian sepak takraw athletes at national and international level.

The national squad clinched the Sepak Takraw Asian Cup title at Stadium Titiwangsa in May 2025, before securing two gold medals at the SEA Games in Bangkok, Thailand, in December.

“These milestones prove that sepak takraw is more than a traditional sport – it is a competitive endeavour that requires continuous support, strategic planning and quality facilities to thrive.

“The Government, via the Federal Territories Department and DBKL, has agreed to designate Stadium Titiwangsa as a sepak takraw hub in support of this vision,” Yeoh said during the announcement at the stadium on Jalan Tembeling.

She added that the facility would serve as the training centre for the Federal Territories sepak takraw team in preparation for the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) this August.

Upgrades to the stadium included sprucing up of the toilets, changing rooms and media halls as well as repainting the facade.

Yeoh, formerly Youth and Sports minister, hopes that the stadium will be fully utilised by Malaysian Sepaktakraw Federation (PSM) to nurture and train future talent.

She said the federation would continue carrying out sepak takraw clinics for all Malaysians, including students from vernacular schools, to introduce the sport to a wider audience.

She assured however, that the stadium could still be rented and used for other sports activities.

At the event, Yeoh presented cash incentives to eight DBKL staff who competed at the Bangkok SEA Games.

The athletes, who collectively won one gold, two silver and five bronze medals, received between RM500 and RM2,000 in recognition of their efforts.

Also present were Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Fadhlun Mak Ujud and PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan.
