Travellers at six key transport hubs nationwide, including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) can now enjoy smooth connectivity via U Mobile’s in-building coverage (IBC) service, ULTRA5G.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative ensured that the country impressed with its digital capabilities, besides warm hospitality, during Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

“The indoor 5G coverage, deployed by U Mobile with infrastructure support from EDOTCO, is now available at Terminal 1 and 2, as well as the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Langkawi International Airport, Penang Sentral and Terminal Bersepadu Selatan.

“Tourists will not only receive good service from airport staff but also fast and reliable Internet connectivity from the moment they arrive, leaving them with a very positive impression of Malaysia,” he said at the launch ceremony at KLIA Terminal 1 in Sepang.

He said Malaysia was among the countries that offered affordable Internet rates and that seamless coverage would further enhance visitor experience.

In conjunction with VM2026, U Mobile has also introduced its ULTRA Tourist Plan, offering 100GB of free data for 24 hours to international visitors via eSIM registration or a standard SIM card.

Fahmi said the plan would allow tourists to share their experiences online, discover new destinations and stay connected with family and friends at high speed.

“We hope visitors will be excited to use ULTRA5G not only to share the content they create in Malaysia, but also to discover new places to visit and communicate easily with loved ones.”

He said beyond this, however, the nation’s 5G deployment supports broader ambitions, including the government’s digital transformation goals and transport-oriented development (TOD) initiatives.

Fahmi said advanced applications such as RedCap surveillance cameras, robotics and artificial intelligence-enabled monitoring systems could be deployed more efficiently with high-speed 5G connectivity.

“With high-speed 5G and related technologies, authorities and building operators could improve security, enhance monitoring and deliver better services.”

The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry deputy secretary-general (tourism) Chua Choon Hwa and U Mobile chief executive officer Wong Heang Tuck.

Also present were Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission deputy managing director (Development) Eneng Faridah Iskandar, Edotco group chief executive officer Adlan Tajudin and Malaysian Airports Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani.

Wong said the company remained committed to the nation’s digital aspirations by aggressively expanding its 5G coverage across towns and states.

He said U Mobile has played an active role in digitalising various sectors through the deployment of indoor 5G coverage at buildings such as hospitals, convention centres, government offices and retail hubs, too.

“With the support of Edotco, advanced indoor 5G coverage has been installed across all the floors and facilities of the transport hubs to ensure seamless and uninterrupted connectivity,” he added.

The company is targeting the rollout of IBC at more than 600 locations nationwide by the second half of 2029.

U Mobile also showcased Malaysia’s first live 5G RedCap camera streaming over its ULTRA5G network at the event.

It proved that surveillance cameras could be deployed at any location while consuming lower network resources such as power and bandwidth, thereby reducing installation costs.
