The project to upgrade the Haji Mohd Said Hockey Stadium in Seremban 2, Negri Sembilan is expected to commence in May, pending tender evaluations and appointment of a contractor.

Youth and Sports Ministry in a media statement said the project was tendered on Dec 24 with the advertisement period expected to close on Feb 12.

“This project has experienced some delays due to the need to go through several coordination processes involving various stakeholders.

“Among the processes that need to be completed are land surveying, specification amendments and finalisation of the concept design which requires confirmation from the customer before the tender can be implemented,” said the ministry.

It stated that all of these matters must also be in line with the approved budget ceiling.

The project will be implemented by Public Works Department (JKR), while the ministry will monitor the progress to ensure it ran smoothly and adhered to the set timeline.

The project when completed, the ministry said, was hoped to benefit the people of Negri Sembilan and become a catalyst for the development of sports, especially hockey.

The ministry stressed its commitment to continue to popularise and cultivate sports in line with Malaysia Madani aspirations of a healthy and active nation.

Previous media reports highlighted that the stadium had been closed since 2020 because the artificial turf, underground drainage and floodlights were dilapidated, making the venue unsuitable for training or matches.

In February 2024, the ministry announced an allocation of RM5mil to upgrade the stadium.
