AFTER a year of tight deadlines chasing stories and highlighting community concerns, it was time for media practitioners to unwind.

With notepads, voice recorders and cameras tucked away, the group of 25 pressmen were treated to a hotel buffet in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

The Media Appreciation Night, hosted by Batu Lanchang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong, has become a yearly tradition.

Joining them for the occasion were some 100 personnel from Ong’s service centre and Village Community Management Council, as well as their family members.

In a brief address, Ong said the event was a gesture of gratitude to those who had worked closely with him throughout the year.

He particularly acknowledged media practitioners for their role in sharing information about various initiatives and events with the public.

Ong also paid tribute to his service centre team and associates whose collective efforts were key to the effective delivery of services and community engagement in his constituency.

“Everyone has worked hard, so what better way to say thank you than with a nice meal and an evening of camaraderie,” he said.

The event also doubled as a Christmas celebration.
