THE Star won the Klang Mayor’s Special Award and Best Photographer Award at the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Media Appreciation Night 2025.

StarMetro journalist Edward Rajendra bagged the special award and RM300 while Izzrafiq Alias took home the award for best photographer and RM200.

They also received a certificate of appreciation and a trophy each.

Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain in his speech said the Mayor’s Special Award was given for the outstanding coverage of MBDK and Klang affairs, adding the writer was recognised based on the quality and impact of the local reporting.

“This award refers to journalists who are recognised for excellence in integrity and for their significant contributions in the field of journalism that have a positive impact on society or a specific community,” he added.

He said the Best Photographer Award was based on Izzrafiq’s photos taken at a fun walk and other events in Klang where the photographer had shown his skills and artistic vision.

“His photos show that he has a great eye for detail, and is able to capture the emotional impact (of the people at the events),” Abd Hamid added.

He said the award recognised news published in StarMetro that demonstrated high standards of reporting on issues of significance.

The event at the Royal Selangor Yacht Club (RSYC) in Port Klang, saw 70 media personnel present including RSYC Commodore Ramasamy Menon, MBDK councillors Halim Mohamed Redzuan and Ang Kian Wah.

All the guests were treated to a scrumptious dinner with live entertainment.
