Penang governor leads heritage ride to historical George Town temple

THE Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib made a brief stop at the Thai Pak Koong (Ng Suk) Temple on King Street, George Town, during the TYT Heritage Ride 2026 programme.

He arrived with a cycling convoy of more than 100 participants as part of the event, jointly organised by Yayasan Amal Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Penang Mountain Bike Association and I-Sports.

The delegation was welcomed by temple chairman Foo Yen Chow, deputy chairman Datuk Lio Chee Yeong and committee members.

Lio provided Ramli with an overview of the temple’s history, architectural features and recent restoration works.

A recipient of the prestigious 2021 Unesco Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation, the temple was also honoured by George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) in 2020 for its successful restoration and heritage adaptation.”

The RM3mil rebuilding and conservation works began in 2017 and were completed over a 32-month period.

Also present was Penang youth and sports committee chairman Daniel Gooi.
