THE back-to-school season got a little brighter for 93 children from Kampung Kebun Bunga, Batu Tiga in Shah Alam, Selangor.

The children, orphans and those from B40 families, received new school bags and stationery during a special event.

It was organised by the Guru Dharma Society (GDS) in collaboration with the Kampung Kebun Bunga Federal Village Development and Security Committee.

GDS president Supriya Prasannan said the idea behind the initiative was the belief that education could transform lives.

“The Back2School event is a reminder that hope is not abstract; it is built, shared and passed on.

“Sometimes it begins with something as simple but powerful, such as a school bag filled with possibilities,” she said, adding that they welcomed sponsors to continue the outreach programmes.

Some 210 children and parents were treated to a special lunch after the event.

Among those present were Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid, GDS patron and former deputy minister Datuk T. Murugiah as well as Selangor Council of Welfare and Social Development vice-president Datin Paduka Khatijah Sulaiman.

In his speech, Murugiah encouraged the children to cultivate discipline and perseverance as foundations to success.

The society has been running outreach programmes for 15 years, focused on supporting Malaysian children through education.
