Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) ramped up efforts to clean up the capital city, with more than 16 cleanliness-related operations carried out in December in time to usher in 2026.
Most of the operations were conducted in downtown areas and the city centre, including one in Bukit Bintang where DBKL’s Flying Squad washed rubbish bins in the area.
“The washing is done regularly as an effort to preserve the city’s image, by warding off unpleasant smells to make sure that the city’s environment is always clean and comfortable for both residents and visitors,” DBKL said in a social media post.
DBKL removed rubbish from beneath the Lebuh Pasar Besar bridge to prevent foul odours and stop the area from becoming a breeding ground for pests and insects.
In Jalan Masjid India, DBKL cleared rubbish from electric cables, including party ribbons.
“City Hall reminds the public not do anything that can damage public facilities and disrupt the city’s safety,” it said.
Some other major streets such as Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Petaling, Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Sultan, Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin, Jalan Alor and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman were also cleaned.
DBKL also cleaned inlets of the drains around Cheras for smooth water flow.
“We disposed of rubbish, mud sedimentation and other materials that could block the flow of water to ensure the proper functioning of the drainage system and reduce the risk of floods,” DBKL updated online.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud went on inspection rounds checking drains along Jalan Yew and Jalan Cheras after City Hall workers cleared sand and waste clogging them.
“More subsequent actions will be taken to ensure that the drainage system functions properly and in preserving the city’s cleanliness for residents’ safety and comfort,” DBKL added.
