JOHOR police recorded a 2.72% improvement in their case resolution rate in 2025, says Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.
He said from Jan1 to Dec 1, the state crime index recorded 5,021 cases, an increase of 113 cases or 2.32% compared with the same period in 2024.
“However, case resolution rates also improved, rising 2.72% from 63.3% to 66.02%,” he said in his speech during the monthly assembly held at state police headquarters in Johor Baru.
Comm Ab Rahaman added that while crime numbers had risen slightly, coordinated efforts from all departments had helped improve resolution rates, reinforcing public confidence in the police force.
He also highlighted the critical role of the Special Branch, responsible for monitoring and evaluating threats to national security.
“Threats are no longer linear or one-directional.
“The Special Branch plays a vital role in collecting accurate intelligence, performing in-depth strategic analysis and connecting dots that others cannot see.”
Comm Ab Rahaman cited a successful operation on Sept 4, where Special Branch and Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) arrested an individual involved with the banned “Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light” (AROPL).
He said the individual was charged under sections 5, 9, and 13(1)(b) of Johor State Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997 and sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment.
Comm Ab Rahaman said the AROPL teaching was declared deviant by the Johor Fatwa Committee on March 24, 2024, and gazetted on June 12 this year.
He also highlighted the Johor Criminal Investigation Department’s performance in Operation Pedo 2.0 by the Malaysian Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) D11 team, which led to the arrest of five teenagers in Pontian involved in selling child sexual abuse materials, generating profits of around RM76,000.
Meanwhile, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department continued to prioritise law enforcement and road safety through operations such as Op Trade, Op Drunk, Op Motorcycle involving street thugs and joint operations with other agencies, he said.
Between Jan 1 and Nov 30 this year, there were 93,285 road accidents recorded in Johor, a 4.76% increase compared with the same period last year.
Comm Ab Rahaman urged road users to comply with traffic laws, drive responsibly and prioritise their own and others’ safety.
The state police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department made 23,856 arrests and seized 3.32 tonnes and 10,066.41 litres of drugs in 2025, with a total value of RM175.27mil.
Assets worth RM16.18mil were also confiscated, he said.
“On Nov 3, the department successfully dismantled a major drug syndicate, seizing drugs worth RM11.4mil, confiscating assets worth RM75,000 and arresting one syndicate member.
“Overall, 42 syndicates were disrupted with 138 arrests, with drug seizures amounting to RM156.3mil and asset seizures valued at RM5.54mil.”
Comm Ab Rahaman said these achievements were not just statistics, but represented the safeguarding of families, communities and the nation.
