THE Kiwanis Club of Taman Desa, along with Kiwanis Club of Mahkota Cheras, celebrated an early Christmas with the residents of the Little Sisters of the Poor in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
The event, which united people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, was initiated by Jacqueline Goonting with the approval of Kiwanis Club of Taman Desa president Max Eng.
During the celebration, Eng presented a RM4,000 cheque to support the home’s medical fund.
He said the fund was made possible through the generosity of LC Kong, who donated RM3,000, with Kiwanis Taman Desa contributing RM1,000.
Kiwanis Taman Desa also allocated RM1,000 for food and gifts for the residents.
Continuing his family’s legacy of service, Eng noted that his parents had been active Kiwanians since 2002.
“It’s about giving back to the community and continuing the work my parents started.”
Mahkota Cheras Kiwanis president Lee Wai Ping also reaffirmed her club’s ongoing support for the home.
Since its formation in 2022, Kiwanis Mahkota Cheras had organised joint Christmas celebrations for the home.
“It’s a wonderful way to bring the community together and spread some festive cheer,” she said.
Members from both clubs collaborated to provide delicious food and thoughtful gifts for the residents.
Eng expressed his gratitude to the sponsors who enhanced the celebration and to those who contributed items as Christmas presents.
A highlight of the event was the symbolic muhibbah spirit, as individuals from various races and cultures came together to contribute, reflecting Malaysia’s unity in diversity.
The two Kiwanis Clubs remain committed to serving the underprivileged and bringing joy to the elderly, especially during the festive season, Eng added.
The celebration “exemplified the true spirit of giving and community”, reinforcing the importance of kindness and generosity across society.
