RM8.4mil spend helps reduce case load, shifts patients to dedicated facilities
TWO new dedicated mother-and-child government clinics have begun operations in Johor Baru following an RM8.4mil state allocation.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the new units were established to reduce patient load at existing facilities, referring to Sultan Ismail Health Clinic and Gelang Patah Health Clinic.
“To ensure smooth and effective operations, 33 personnel have been stationed at the Sultan Ismail facility and 26 in Gelang Patah.
“They include medical officers, nurses, pharmacy officers and medical laboratory technologists.
“They form the frontline, ensuring that healthcare services are delivered professionally and with full dedication,” he said in a media statement.
The Mentri Besar said the Gelang Patah Health Clinic facility had been fully operational since Dec 8.
The unit at Sultan Ismail Health Clinic started operations on Dec 1.
“The Sultan Ismail Health Clinic not only caters to maternal and child healthcare needs, but is also equipped with a medication supply centre offering drive-thru services for patients.
“This is to ease the medication collection process, especially for working adults and senior citizens.”
He added that the facility also provided essential services such as immunisation, pharmacy, physiotherapy and counselling.
Onn Hafiz said the establishment of the units were the result of strategic collaboration between the state government, Johor Health Department, Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor, Waqaf An-Nur and the private sector.
During the state assembly sitting in November, Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon had said that parts of Sultan Ismail Health Clinic in Taman Mount Austin would be moved to ease congestion.
The work, he had said, involved turning a long- abandoned market in the area into facilities for mother-and-child healthcare.
Meanwhile, in July, Ling had said that the Gelang Patah Health Clinic’s mother-and-child unit would be relocated to a dedicated space at the Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters area.
