A KEY industry player in energy and transition is actively repositioning itself to excite and attract young talent.

Malakoff Corporation Bhd group chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin said many engineers and tech professionals were currently hesitant about pursuing a career in the energy sector.

He, however, added that Malakoff had exciting plans to change that perception.

“As far as the company’s direction is concerned, we want more young people and a lot more diversity,” Syahrunizam shared during a recent visit to Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) at Menara Star.

He emphasised the group’s commitment to energy security and sustainability through its diversified portfolio.

“We are also deeply involved in the green energy and environmental business through our arm, Alam Flora,”

“As a group, we are fully committed to energy and the environment, and we aim to be a key part of the country’s energy security requirements soon,” he added.

Malakoff’s business pillars now included Malakoff Green Solutions, Malakoff Environmental Solutions and Malakoff Energy, reflecting its comprehensive commitment to innovative and sustainable approaches for a brighter future.

During the visit, Syahrunizam also expressed his admiration for SMG’s diverse platform use and audience reach, noting potential opportunities for collaboration.

“The good news is the growth in the use of various platforms within SMG.

“There is much more coverage, and the company has a diverse audience, which is interesting for Malakoff,” he said.

He added that the detailed content, digital and short videos produced across SMG’s platforms were crucial for public education in the energy industry.

The Malakoff delegation received a briefing on radio drama production during their tour of the Suria FM and 988 FM radio stations.

988 FM Content and Production senior manager Leon Lo shared insights into the elaborate three-month process involved in creating a 15-episode radio drama.

“Audio drama is all about imagination – it is a form of voice performance,” Lo said, demonstrating sound-effect props like doors and canes.

He also proposed creating stories for Malakoff to enhance audience engagement.

The Malakoff delegation included its chief financial officer Mohd Nazersham Mansor; Sustainability, Research and Investor Relations head Masleena Hafiza Mahdi; Group Communications and Branding head Suriati Mohammad Mokhtar and chief of staff Armand Zarim Rafique Haniff.

They were welcomed by SMG Group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt, chief operating officer Lydia Wang, chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng, along with other senior leaders from the content and business teams.
