Around 10,000 participants are expected to join the Christmas Parade around Sibu, Sarawak, this Saturday.

The annual event is organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) Sibu Branch.

ACS chairman Archdeacon Jose Jol Endru said this year’s parade would be coordinated by the Roman Catholic Church.

“We are hoping for good weather so more participants will join,” he told reporters after leading a Christmas carolling session at Grace Itun Upo House, an Iban longhouse in Sungai Salim.

Rev Jose, who is also the St John’s Anglican Church vicar, said participants should gather at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 from 5pm, with the parade set to begin at 7pm.

He said the parade would start at the town square and continue via Jalan Bujang Suntong, Jalan Pulau, Jalan Channel, Jalan Mission, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Jalan Ramin, Jalan Morshidi Sidek and Jalan Sanyan, looping back to the starting point and ending along Jalan Kampung Nyabor in front of the WTK building.

He added that St John’s Anglican Church Sibu would hold a performance at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 on Dec 19, from 7pm to 9pm, in conjunction with the Christmas Carnival organised by Sibu Municipal Council.
