Civic consciousness needed from all Bukit Kiara park visitors

Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara is a popular park, but visitors should be mindful not to litter.

Folk who go to Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara will know where to find the best view of the hill.

They go there, sit under the shelter, admire the view, take photos, selfies, wefies and wait for sunset to take more shots.

Some have picnics and meditate there for a while.

But that spot does not always have the prettiest view.

The rubbish bin flap is open and waste is strewn all around it, yet people sit and admire the view, next to filthy wrappers, plastic, paper, cutlery, bottles and food scraps.

Don’t blame the monkeys for this mess as visitors are the ones leaving behind their rubbish.

It is amazing what people can put up with for a view – even ignoring the litter next to them.

Are they oblivious, unconscientious or just downright apathetic, lazy and irresponsible about maintaining the environment outside their homes?

There is a heavy rock placed on the rubbish bin that keeps the flap down and the monkeys from rummaging the bin’s contents.

The bin’s latch has been broken for a long time and was never monkey-proof, yet the authorities do not seem to want to repair it.

The next time you are at this beautiful spot and have rubbish, take it home with you.

Your rubbish is most likely to be lighter than the rock and heavy rubbish bin lid.

However, if you choose to lift the rock and the lid to put rubbish in, you must close the lid and return the rock on top of it.

Following these steps will make a huge difference to the park so that more people can enjoy it.

Basic civic consciousness from all park visitors will go a long way in maintaining Bukit Kiara.
