KELAB Sokongan Pekerjaan Autisme (SEA Club) welcomed visitors to its annual charity bazaar, an event aimed at raising public awareness and highlighting the importance of supported employment for adult persons with autism (PWA).

The club was established in 2020 as a dedicated space that supports adults on the autism spectrum to work in a sheltered and safe work environment.

It also incorporates social and leisure engagement through indoor and outdoor activities.

The recent one-day charity bazaar, held at SEA Club’s centre in Section 4, Petaling Jaya, drew a diverse crowd, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

Visitors enjoyed the breakfast and lunch offered by the various stalls, while shopping for items such as books, quality pre-loved goods, paintings and antiques.

The bazaar also featured a wide range of freshly baked items and handmade crafts created by PWA.

According to the club, the annual charity bazaar helps sustain their programmes and serves as a meaningful platform to deepen the connection between PWA and the wider community.

“We hope to bring employment opportunities to these young PWA,” said SEA Club chairman Rita Anthony.

“It is often not possible for adult PWA to go out and work even though some have basic work skills.

“Under the supported employment model, SEA Club sources jobs according to the preference and abilities of the PWA, where they engage in work meaningfully.”

She pointed out that adult PWA face many challenges to live a full and productive life with dignity.

“Community events like this charity bazaar are vital in destigmatisation and provide an opportunity for the public to see for themselves the work skills and abilities of the PWA,” said Rita.

She added that the club welcomed ongoing support to ensure more PWA could benefit from meaningful activities and supported employment opportunities.
